L’Unione delle Camere Penali Italiane, nel manifestare apertamente la propria preoccupazione circa le attuali violazioni dei diritti umani in Turchia, esprime la massima solidarietà all’avvocato Taner Kiliç e agli altri 22 colleghi, ne auspica un pronto rilascio e, più in generale, auspica la cessazione delle ostilità nei confronti dei difensori turchi dei diritti e delle libertà fondamentali.

The Italian Union of Criminal Lawyers expresses serious concerns regarding the violations of human rights in Turkey, expresses solidarity in favor of Taner Kiliç and the other colleagues, wishes their release and, in general, advocates a less hostile attitude towards the defenders of human rights and fundamental freedoms.

Il 6 giugno 2017, a Smirne, l’avvocato turco Taner Kiliç è stato arrestato, insieme ad altri 22 colleghi. Kiliç, Presidente di Amnesty International Turchia e difensore del giornalista Gabriele Del Grande, è accusato, come gli altri 22 legali, di legami con la presunta rete golpista di Fethullah Gulen.

Questo attacco agli avvocati si inserisce in un contesto di alta tensione in Turchia, dove il governo di Erdogan ha compresso drasticamente le libertà fondamentali. Il dissenso e la libertà di espressione, infatti, vengono troppo spesso repressi in modo violento ed arbitrario.

A partire dalle proteste di Gezi Park del 2013, passando per l’uccisione dell’avvocato Tahir Elci a Diyarbakir (rimasta ad oggi senza un colpevole), il clima si è ulteriormente inasprito a seguito del tentato golpe del 2016. Lo stato di emergenza si presta quale strumento di repressione: esponenti dell’accademia, della giustizia, giornalisti e difensori dei diritti umani vengono minacciati, licenziati, arrestati e processati per terrorismo.

Quest’ultimo episodio rappresenta una ulteriore prova di quanto i diritti in Turchia vengano sistematicamente calpestati, proprio tramite la repressione di coloro che si battono per la libertà e per i diritti, gli avvocati tra i primi.

On June 6^th, 2017, in Smirne, Turkish lawyer Taner Kiliç was arrested, together with 22 colleagues.

Kiliç, Head of Amnesty International Turkey, and lawyer of the Italian journalist Gabriele Del Grande, has been accused, with the other 22 lawyers, of cooperation with the alleged leader of the coup d'état Fethullah Gulen.

This attack, perpetrated against lawyers, takes place within a climate of high tension in Turkey, where the government has drastically restricted fundamental freedoms. Dissent and freedom of expression, indeed, are often subject to violent and arbitrary repression.

Starting with the protests in Gezi Park in 2013, moving to the murder of the lawyer Tahir Elci in Diyarbakir, (still unpunished), the situation has been further exacerbated by the coup d'état in 2016. The state of emergency is used as a tool for repression: members of Turkish academia, justice, journalists and HRDs have been threatened, fired, arrested or faced trials for terrorism charges.

These recent events provide further evidence of the fact that, currently, rights in Turkey are systematically disregarded, through the repression of whoever fights for rights themselves, lawyers included.
